Briefing from the outgoing officer. Occurrence book read and signed, equipment checked, keys and radios accounted for, standing orders and live concerns understood before you take the post.
Security work is judged on the twenty minutes a year when it goes wrong. Scroll through a duty cycle, the evidence you will produce, and what the credential opens.
The occupation is procedure held steady across long quiet periods, then correct action under sudden pressure. The programme is built around those two demands and the reporting that connects them.
Briefing from the outgoing officer. Occurrence book read and signed, equipment checked, keys and radios accounted for, standing orders and live concerns understood before you take the post.
Four hundred people through the door in ninety minutes. Identity checked, visitors processed, deliveries screened, contractors verified — courteously, consistently, and without creating the queue management complains about.
A refused entry escalates. Voice, distance, stance and structured de-escalation first. If it moves past that: contain, summon support, protect people, and preserve what happened for the report.
Routes walked to pattern without becoming predictable. Doors, plant rooms, fire exits, lighting failures, anything moved since the last pass — each observation logged accurately enough to stand up later.
Hours are allocated to where competence is hardest to build, not evenly across a syllabus. The heaviest modules are the ones an employer will test you on in the first week.
The legal and ethical frame: powers and their limits, use of reasonable force, human rights, discrimination, confidentiality, and the conduct standards clients contract for.
Controlling a boundary: identity verification, visitor and contractor management, vehicle and delivery control, search procedure, and refusing entry professionally.
Seeing accurately and writing it down: patrol patterns, situational awareness, description and recall, occurrence books, and incident reports that hold up under scrutiny.
The highest-value skill in the sector. Recognising escalation, positioning and distance, structured verbal de-escalation, disengagement, and post-incident procedure.
Fire, medical, evacuation, intrusion and suspicious items. Immediate actions, cordon and control, working alongside emergency services, and preserving a scene.
Supervised deployment on a real assignment plus scenario assessment: radio procedure, control room liaison, handover discipline, and sustained performance across a full duty cycle.
Security clients audit their guarding provider. Evidence of assessed competence is commercially useful to an employer, not only to you — which is why the portfolio is built to be shown.

Private Security Operations — 440 notional hours, assessment-led.
Every observation, scenario and report behind the award — signed, dated and retained.

Fire, medical and evacuation response assessed against timed immediate actions.
A supervisory route into site lead, supervisor and control-room roles.
Units, hours and criteria are written to be mapped and certified by a certification body.
This programme does not confer a licence to practise. Where a security licence is required, it remains with the relevant national regulator.
Guarding contracts are won and lost on officer quality. An officer with assessed, documented competence is worth more to a provider than one hired on a walk-in interview — and that is the position this programme puts you in.
Deployed on assignment with documented competence from the first week.
Post responsibility, briefing colleagues, owning reporting quality on site.
Supervisory practice and specialist routes — the intended Level 4 Advanced Certificate destination.
