Overview
Uganda grows coffee that is served badly in most of the places that sell it. This short course trains the extraction discipline, milk technique and workflow that speciality cafés hire for.
It is a stackable award: hours count towards the Level 3 Bar & Beverage Service Operations certificate for learners who continue.
What you study
4 units · 120 notional hours. Hours shown are the notional allocation used for planning and progression.
Varietals, growing regions, processing methods and the Ugandan supply chain.
Dialling in, extraction variables, tasting for balance and correcting a bad shot.
Steam technique, texture consistency, pouring and drink-to-spec standards.
Station layout, order sequencing, machine cleaning, backflushing and calibration.
How you are assessed
Practical competence is assessed in person by a qualified assessor against written criteria. No practical competence is assessed online.

Entry requirements
- 16 years or older at the start of the course
- No prior qualification required
- Basic spoken English
- Health and hygiene clearance for food handling
Certification
Learners receive the ASIEA award and the evidence behind it. External certification is being sought: the units, notional hours and assessment on this page are written so a certification body can map them to its own qualifications.
