Overview
Most workplace conflict is lost in the first thirty seconds, through tone, distance and body position rather than through what is said. This course trains that opening correctly.
It suits security officers, front-line service staff, drivers, receptionists and healthcare support workers, and stacks onto any ASIEA occupational certificate.
What you study
4 units · 90 notional hours. Hours shown are the notional allocation used for planning and progression.
Triggers, inhibitors, the escalation curve and recognising your own response.
Tone, listening, signposting, giving bad news and offering choices.
Reaction gap, stance, environmental awareness and safe disengagement.
Incident records, escalation thresholds, welfare and lessons learned.
How you are assessed
Practical competence is assessed in person by a qualified assessor against written criteria. No practical competence is assessed online.
Observed de-escalation of two graded scenarios
A written account of a real or simulated incident
Escalation, positioning and reporting questioning

Certification
Learners receive the ASIEA award and the evidence behind it. External certification is being sought: the units, notional hours and assessment on this page are written so a certification body can map them to its own qualifications.
