Overview
A workplace first aider is the person who acts in the four minutes before help arrives. This award trains that response and assesses it physically, on a manikin and on a casualty, not on paper.
It is the safety award most commonly required alongside an occupational certificate, and it stacks onto any ASIEA programme.
What you study
5 units · 60 notional hours. Hours shown are the notional allocation used for planning and progression.
Scene safety, infection control, consent, escalation and record keeping.
Response, airway, breathing, CPR, recovery position and defibrillator use.
Catastrophic bleeding, dressings, burns, embedded objects and shock management.
Choking, seizures, fractures, head injuries, anaphylaxis and heat illness.
Full scenario practice and assessed casualty handling.
How you are assessed
Practical competence is assessed in person by a qualified assessor against written criteria. No practical competence is assessed online.

Certification
Learners receive the ASIEA award and the evidence behind it. External certification is being sought: the units, notional hours and assessment on this page are written so a certification body can map them to its own qualifications.
