Overview

A first qualification for people entering hospitality without prior experience. It covers what a restaurant floor needs from a new starter in their first ninety days, and assesses it in a real dining room.

It is designed to articulate directly into the Level 3 Bar & Beverage or Front Office certificates, with hours recognised on progression.

How you are assessed

Practical competence is assessed in person by a qualified assessor against written criteria. No practical competence is assessed online.

Oral questioning

Procedure and safety questioning by the assessor

Entry requirements

  • 16 years or older at the start of the programme
  • No prior qualification required
  • Basic spoken English
  • Health and hygiene clearance for food handling
  • Availability for in-person service blocks

Learners receive the ASIEA award and the evidence behind it. External certification is being sought: the units, notional hours and assessment on this page are written so a certification body can map them to its own qualifications.
