Overview
Housekeeping is the largest department in most properties and the one guests judge hardest. It is also physically demanding work with a real chemical and manual-handling risk profile.
This certificate trains the room sequence to a published standard, at a working pace, with the safety discipline that keeps staff uninjured.
What you study
6 units · 240 notional hours. Hours shown are the notional allocation used for planning and progression.
Structure, room status codes, communication with front office and maintenance.
Chemical types, dilution, PPE, safety data sheets and colour-coded systems.
Servicing and departure cleans to a written standard, at a timed pace.
Sanitation standards, bed making, linen handling and amenity replenishment.
Corridors, lobbies, periodic deep clean schedules and floor care.
Manual handling, lost property, room security, discretion and reporting damage.
How you are assessed
Practical competence is assessed in person by a qualified assessor against written criteria. No practical competence is assessed online.

Entry requirements
- 17 years or older at the start of the programme
- No prior qualification required
- Basic spoken English
- Physical capability for accommodation work
Certification
Learners receive the ASIEA award and the evidence behind it. External certification is being sought: the units, notional hours and assessment on this page are written so a certification body can map them to its own qualifications.
