Overview
A control room is where an incident is either caught early or explained badly afterwards. Both outcomes come down to operator discipline and record quality.
This course covers system operation, structured observation, incident tracking across cameras, and the evidence and privacy handling that decides whether footage is usable.
What you study
5 units · 220 notional hours. Hours shown are the notional allocation used for planning and progression.
Roles, shift structure, concentration management and communication with field officers.
Fixed and PTZ operation, presets, recording systems, fault reporting and coverage gaps.
Structured scanning, suspicious-behaviour indicators and avoiding profiling bias.
Following a subject across cameras while directing a response by radio.
Retention, export, continuity of evidence, data protection and lawful use of footage.
How you are assessed
Practical competence is assessed in person by a qualified assessor against written criteria. No practical competence is assessed online.
A live monitoring period observed and signed
A subject followed across a camera network under assessment
Incident logs and an export handled to continuity standard
Entry requirements
- 18 years or older at the start of the course
- Senior Four (UCE) or equivalent — or guarding experience
- Written English sufficient for incident logs
- Basic computer literacy
Certification
Learners receive the ASIEA award and the evidence behind it. External certification is being sought: the units, notional hours and assessment on this page are written so a certification body can map them to its own qualifications.
