Overview
Most workplace injuries are traced to a control that existed on paper and not in practice. A safety supervisor's job is to close that gap and to document that it is closed.
This is a proposed Level 4 award, intended for supervisors and team leaders who carry safety accountability alongside an operational role.
What you study
6 units · 180 notional hours. Hours shown are the notional allocation used for planning and progression.
Employer and worker duties, enforcement, and where a supervisor's liability sits.
Hazard identification, the hierarchy of control, writing and reviewing assessments.
Method statements, permits to work, isolation, PPE programmes and contractor control.
Immediate response, evidence, root cause analysis and corrective action tracking.
Toolbox talks, near-miss reporting, behavioural safety and challenging unsafe practice.
Inspections, audit programmes, statistics and management reporting.
How you are assessed
Practical competence is assessed in person by a qualified assessor against written criteria. No practical competence is assessed online.
Assessments produced for a real workplace and reviewed by the assessor
A full investigation file with root cause and corrective actions
An inspection and a toolbox talk observed on site
Recorded questioning on duty of care and judgement
Entry requirements
- 21 years or older at the start of the programme
- An ASIEA Level 3 certificate or equivalent occupational competence
- Current supervisory or team-leader responsibility
- Confident written English for assessments and reports
Certification
Learners receive the ASIEA award and the evidence behind it. External certification is being sought: the units, notional hours and assessment on this page are written so a certification body can map them to its own qualifications.
