Overview
A first qualification for people entering the guarding sector. It covers the duties a new officer performs under supervision, and the written record-keeping that most employers find missing in untrained staff.
Hours articulate into the Level 3 Private Security Operations certificate for learners who continue.
What you study
5 units · 180 notional hours. Hours shown are the notional allocation used for planning and progression.
Sector structure, the officer's role, limits of authority, ethics and appearance.
Static post discipline, patrol routes, checkpoints and equipment care.
Visitor and vehicle logging, identification checks and escorting procedure.
Fire, medical and intrusion first response; raising the alarm and evacuation support.
Occurrence book entries, basic incident reports and shift handover.
How you are assessed
Practical competence is assessed in person by a qualified assessor against written criteria. No practical competence is assessed online.

Entry requirements

- Basic written and spoken English
- Character and background checks appropriate to the sector
Certification
Learners receive the ASIEA award and the evidence behind it. External certification is being sought: the units, notional hours and assessment on this page are written so a certification body can map them to its own qualifications.
